Your clients trust you with the care of their beloved pet, but there can be situations in which clients have to cancel their appointment. That's why it's important to draw up a clear cancellation policy for your dog business. With a clear cancellation policy you avoid questions and discussions afterwards. In this blog post we discuss how you can implement a cancellation policy effectively.

1. Client satisfaction and clarity

A good cancellation policy increases the satisfaction of your clients. It provides clarity about what they can expect if they have to change or cancel their appointment. Clients feel more at ease when they know in advance what the consequences of cancelling or changing are, which is essential for the client experience of your dog business.

2. Take emergencies into account

Life is full of unexpected events, and your clients can sometimes be faced with emergencies. Make sure your cancellation policy offers flexibility for such situations. Allow clients to cancel without a penalty when there is an emergency.

3. Prevent unnecessary gaps in your schedule

A cancellation policy you have thought through carefully also helps you prevent gaps in your schedule. If clients are allowed to cancel at the last moment, this is likely to affect your income and efficiency. That client has kept a spot in your diary occupied, and now it's probably too late to still fill that gap. Consider setting a reasonable cancellation deadline, for example 2 days or 48 hours in advance.

4. Clear communication

Make sure your cancellation policy is clear and concise. Communicate this policy clearly to your clients through your website and emails, and mention it in any contracts. That way your clients won't be caught by surprise, and the chance of someone cancelling last minute is smaller.

5. Sticking to your cancellation policy

Once you have drawn up a good cancellation policy for your dog business, it's important that you stick to it. In DoggyDoggy you can set a cancellation limit, which simply makes it impossible for your clients to cancel an appointment after that limit. This prevents last-minute cancellations. As a result, you don't have to have any awkward conversations with the dog owners. Of course there are always exceptions, and you can still take an appointment out of the planning after the cancellation limit.
